Although, I've been told it isn't good to just let the suspension hang. You can have the car up on jackstands, but make sure the suspension is somewhat being supported.
If you're jacking your car up fairly high, put 2 jacks under the car, one on each side. Have a friend pump one jack while you pump the other. That way it keeps the frame somewhat even, and won't put stress on the rear quarters.

It used to happen with older cars because the tires weren't made as well as they are today.
When storing the car, the only thing ya gotta do is fill em up to max PSI. Then you won't have to worry.
