Default 700r4 - 4l60e converter difference??

I have a tranny that was rebuilt out of an 83 chevy van, 700r4.
Will a converter for a 4l60e work for it? Im not worried about bolt pattern, just the splined side. What will work and what wont?
Thanks.

Also what is the best way to control the lock-up feature of the tranny in an older vehicle? I see kits that dont allow it to lock up till it hits 4th gear, is that the norm?

No 4L60E converter will work. The 1983 700R4 is junk with a small 26 spline input shaft, this was only used up to mid 1985.

Best way to control lock up, well that depends on your preference.

The last vehicle I did with a 700R4 I used the factory parts it already had and wired them to a three position toggle switch.
One position was automatic lock up in fourth.
One was off.
One was lock up when switched.
