Default Signs of a bad torque converter??

How can you tell when a torque converter is horribly ineffecient and costing you huge HP loss to the wheels.

I have a 9" th350 4000 stall converter behind my ls1 that slips about 20-22% from dyno calculations. The car is dynoing VERY low.

How much horsepower would 20-22% cost you HP wise to the wheels? I know a good converter should be 6-8%

Some LS1 converters will have a peak efficiency of even better than that. I have seen cars, not necessarily LS1, have a lot of trouble at the track even though the converter seems to be stalling in the correct RPM range because they bought a cheap converter from somewhere that was very inefficient. I'm not saying this is you or anything like that, but if I was trying to figure out why the car is producing awful numbers its definitely a place to look. Especially if you are suspicious that you may have a bad 'verter.
