I bought a trans broken,dosenīt shift from 1st gear,what is the common cause of that?Need to know what to look for when tearing apart

Iīve began to tear ir appart,can you tell me what to look for?

 

Sounds like a locked up low roller if I had to guess.

 

As Vince mentioned I would look at the Low roller clutch but usually rather than just first when is locked you will get a bind up brakig effect when its time for the 1-2 shift to ocur, Also look at the 1-2 Shift valve
Thing is was the fact the shift was being commanded ever verified ?
Was the speedo working on the car it came out of?

Take some pictures of what you see inside and post them up maybe we will see something .
