Hi, I'm trying to help a friend convert his camaro over from a manual to an automatic, and we're most of the way done, but I have a question.
The parts we got for the swap all came from 1 camaro, and I thought we had everything, but I realized that when the car is turned off, there is nothing locking the shifter into park. When the car is on, the solenoid on the shifter has 12 volts, which locks it into park, and when we step on the brake pedal, that cuts power to the solenoid and we're then able to shift out of park.
Is there a second cable that connects the ignition cylinder to the shifter mechanically? I know in every other automatic car I've driven that you also can't turn the key all the way back to lock without first putting the shifter into park, leading me to believe we're missing a cable.
Anybody have a spare cable they want to sell? Or have a part number for us to order one?
Thanks for the help.
