Default Here's a challenge!

I installed a convertor lockup switch because I was slipping out of TCC lockup on Yank PT3400 and a Rossler trans. Why would a TCC lockup come out of lockup when one just "touches" the pedal?

The TCC lock up switch is not working! And it IS wired correctly!

What is it?

Are you talking about the brake pedal? If so, I believe there is a switch on the brake pedal that unlocks the convertor when you hit the brakes - if it didn't, it would be very hard to stop the car!

If you are talking gas pedal, then I have no idea.

right....the switch to the brakes that unlocks the car could be messed up, try setting the cruise control, and if the cruise turns off, you most likely have a bad brake switch...if it just stays on, but the converter stays unlocked...look elsewhere...

Do you have an aftermarket cam? Misfires will keep the TC from locking up...

The switch functions because I can turn it on in gear at idle and the clutch locks, stalling the car. It just doesn't seem to work at speed. No cam, no misfires. I don't understand what that would have to do with a manual lock up switch. The switch cuts the PCM out of the equation entirely, does it not?

I wasn't clear before, I meant the accelerator. It's like the manual lock up isn't there at any speed, or the clutch just doesn't want to lock up. I don't understand it.

Don't lock the converter at idle it's hard on the converter clutch.

So the converter unlocks when you give it gas EVEN while you have it manually locked? Sounds like the converter is going South then. Debris in the converter can also cause the converter to die.

I had a manual switch and it would stay locked.

Have you talked to Yank? Every converter has a lockup profile design. Perhaps the converter itself is defeating the manual lockup signal by design in low rpms/low tps.

OK. Good suggestions. Mike seems to think the trans is going south, and I'm inclined to agree at this point, and here's why:

I lock the convertor, but it still gains RPM, especially at hwy speeds. I came to work today, and I have a 10 minute hwy jaunt, so it's a good test. When I try to maintain my speed, the RPMs go to around 3500 at 80-ish, so I yanked (small yank, not big YANK) the shifter back to D and... no change in RPM or the pitch of the engine with the convertor locked. I suspect the lock is working but the trans is just going into D from OD, like the trans can't keep itself in OD.

Not good. Probably the 3/4 clutch pack going bad.

The wife won't like this one bit.

Rossler. 10 months.

Carl says that since the 1-2 shift is strong, the 3-4 is not the problem. He says the bands are the same for those two shifts.

I'm looking at the tuning now with ATAP.
