I put a TransGo shift kit in my Z-71 with no PCM programming mods. The truck pulls my hot rod trailer and the trany works very hard doing so. ... When I went to order my shift kit I also found there were several different levels and types of kits to choose from!!

After shift kit install with a complete internals freshening up and upgrade, my shifts are unchanged up to around 25% throttle. After that I get firmer and firmer shifts as throttle angle increases.

Shift kits will generally; ... Increase hydraulic flow to clutch and band apply servos and pistons, this will quicken up the engage/disengage time of such. ... Increase hydraulic pressure, this will increase flow to cooler and increase clutch clamping force resulting in a little cooler running trans and clutches that can hold more drive torque. ... Decrease accumulator volume, this will firm up clutch apply resulting in less clutch slippage during modulation >TM related<.

As far as TM goes; After a shift kit install ... with less slippage during modulation, deleting Torque Management will not burn your clutches as bad as a GM stock shifting set up would.

I hope this clears up some myths for you, and I also hope my verbiage was understandable.

For my own info: I'd like to see what Technical information Kevin Steel "TCI Product Engineer" has to add to any of this.

... Ron
