Default LT1 w/4l60e woes

This isn't for my car, but I may be trading a guy my Grand Am for a '94 T/A. He claims it has tranny problems. He said it pulls out fine, but it needs to be like 3500-5000 rpms to shift to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.

Is the torque converter shot, or some other internal? I know nothing of transmissions, so just thought I would ask. I've heard of these transmissions being junk, missing gears, etc. But this sounds like it just needs a converter.

The car has like 120-ish,000 miles on it, and it's bone stock.

I dont think it's throwing codes, but not sure. I'll find out. It's not a major issue, and if worse comes to worst I'll just buy a built PerformaBuilt and swap my old one in.
