Default Trans won't allow shift from park

Good morning,
I'm posting this question for a friend of mine that has a 96' v6 camaro auto.
I haven't been into Chevy's for a bit, I had a lt-1 Z a while back, I'm pretty knowledgable when it comes to mechanics but I don't know much about transmissions.
I know the fluid level is good after testing it cold and after being warm.
What do I need to look for? The actual push lock mechanism seems to function but it wont budge from park.

First I would get under car and unhook linkage and make sure you can turn the lever by had to eliminate any issues that could be there

If every thing look o.k. there ,drop the pan and see if the shift linkage inter nut has back off that holds the park rod to the shaft.

Or check the electronic brake interlock switch on the shifter. You can bypass this by lifting the cover on the shifter and manually push the lock.
