Default 700r4 lock up function only electronics, better right?

I have a 1989 vette 700r4 for my 2001 Z28, i plan on going thru it with bullet proof sun shell and input drum, Kevlar 3-4 band and Altco od 9 disc clutch pack. I plan on retaining vacuum operated lock up control for hi stall lock up convertor. Why arent more people going this route? No shift solenoids, or force motor to screw up, i can keep my M6 LS1 edit tuning, and set up shift points mechanically. Can anyone tell me if im missing something here? A lot less dough and more reliable control(no torque management)
Anyone try this?

Personally I LIKE the electronics of the E. You can probably make your plan work ok, but why not add the bulletproof parts to a 4L60E and enjoy the precision shifting the electronics gives you. I frequently log my runs with my Tech 2 and then revue them on the laptop when I get home. When I have 6600 as the programmed shift rpm, guess what; every shift happens at 6600 rpm! Run after run. I like that! And I think that's part of the quickness and consistancy of my car; the ELECTRONICS!
If I decide I want to try 6200 or 6800 rpm shift points, I'm just a flash program away from doing it! I don't know how you do that with an old 700??

I realize at some power level it's time for a good ole TH400, but at my level of performance (similar to yours, my best is 11.65 @ 116+), I'm stickin' with the 4L60E. I'm on my 2nd summer of trouble free operation (knock on wood) and enjoying it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for trying stuff and I wish you luck, I'm just not sure it's better. Are you gonna route a T.V. cable up to the TB and all of that??

As long as some hillbilly doesn't show up with 750 Holley mounted on an LS1, I say try it and see how it does. It's all good info!

My PCM is edited for M6, i would like to leave that alone. I also dont have a 98 and up 4l60e, i do have a 93 4l60e but it is different control electronically than newer styles. I do also have a 700r4, for rebuilding. No dealing with torque management and shift extensions with it. Bowtie Overdrives offers exact TV cable and brackets for proper LS1 install, no trial and error. If you or anyone else knows the pcm control differences in the new vs. old 4l60e i would like to no more about it before i commit to either, Thanks Jeff.

The only electrical difference is that the 95 and up added PWM TCC control for smoother application of lock up. Not a big difference.

96 and up uses a different connector on the VSS.

And from '97 on they changed the 3-2 solenoid control from PWM to on/off in the PCM, so PCM programming year must match trans. year.

With all due respect,I beleive your seriously backing up on this one.I would much rather the have the percise control a 98-up 4L60E could provide.
There's nothing wrong with wanting to do things a little different though.
