Default TC shimming question

I got my 4l60 bolted up to the motor tonight. I took a feeler guage and checked the distance between the mounting tabs on the TC and the flexplate. I got .280", its a Vig converter. On the searches I've done I see that the max should be .187". Since I obviously have to some shimming, how much?? Is .280" typical or is that unusual??
Just making sure to get it right.

that is to much .187 is the max if the converter when the converter is seated. You need about a .100" shim.
