Default Trans Cooler and making the trans last.

Ok i did a search and did not have much luck. I am swapping out my trans out for a built 4L60 here in the next few weeks along with a 2800-3200 triple disk converter (once i find a good shop to spec one for me) What are some things i can do to help keep the new transmission happy and healthy. My old transmission has lasted 91K with no problems and has had her share of abuse. But with bigger tires and more power it was only a matter of time so i figured i would go ahead and pull her out and save the trans for future projects. Where can i find good trans coolers for F-bodys with limited space around the front of the car. Second are there any extra steeps i can take to keep the new transmission safe and happy.

Shift kit, big trans cooler, trans temp gauge, stronger flexplate. Deeper trans pan may also help. I need to get around to gettin a trans cooler. If i were you i would go with a 3200-3400 stall, you know what they say, you'll want more after a month of having it. Sometimes i wish i went with a 4000 instead of my 3800.

I agree on the stall..i wouldnt go less thatn 3200, i have a 3600 and wish i wouldve went bigger. All of LS1 kidds advice is good all of those can help tranny life but a cooler is very important as heat is the number one enemy of a transmission!

Thanks for the help. I did end up going with a speced 3200 from RPM transmissions the same guys that built my transmisssion. Also backing it up with a trans cooler and B&M pan.

Nice.. Sounds like you have the right plan for the trans and a sick engine combo with the turbo. Be sure to have a trans temp gauge. Also you may also want to put a fan on the trans cooler or if you are mounting the cooler in front of the radiator install a manual fan switch just to have the ability to cool the trans. Since your turbo the 3200 stall will be plenty as the more boost you make the higher it will stall.
