FTI hooked me up for a very reasonable price on my TH400 converter. Drives tight on the street but wack the throttle and look out. The thing that really impressed me with their converter was that I went from a six speed setup trapping 115 to a TH400 setup trapping barely less at 114.13. That's one damn efficient converter. I will say I chickened out and went with a 4000 NA stall. Greg said it should stall 600-800 higher on a 150 shot for me. I know wish I would have gotten a 4500-4800 NA stall. Once it heats up here in Phoenix I'll send it back for a restall.

With a th400 I always had good luck with a TCI off the shelf.
Non lock up converters are easier than lock up converters, being that the main difference is lock up clutch durability, etc.

Without the lock up, I'd be inclined to say that every manufacturers builds are probably damn near identical.

So that leaves it up to talking to a converter builder and getting one to build you a converter that will have the driving characteristics you're looking for.

It would be ideal if someone called every converter manufacturer and gave them specs for one car. Then just spent a few weeks swapping converters and testing the results and seeing who came the closest.
Obviously that never has happened so it's a coin toss. Pick one and go with them.

Picking a torque converter company can be very difficult, especially for a non lock up. A lot of options. I think Circle D can meet your needs, do it for a reasonable cost and be here if you ever need us. Looking at your specs, I would suggest our new 230MM billet converter. It will footbrake great for you and pull through the quarter. I will shoot you a PM with more details.

If you are looking for a true race converter I can help. Our converters have won national championships, been low qualifier, etc. We build real performance converters from street converters to bolt togethers for 2500 hp to the car that won at US Nationals last year.

I would recomend a 8".Part # SS895. Look at our website under SS series competition converters. We also offer this converter with a steel stator or a mechanical diode.
Give me a call or pm me.1-866-726-8358

Yes sir! Circle D is kick ***. No question there.

I currently run their 230mm race converter in our car in the powerglide. I also ran the 230mm in the same car when we had the 4L60E in it. We managed to pull 1.29 60fts with both set ups and they both proved to be very efficient down the track.
