Default rev limiter?

ok I was at the local drag strip with my auto 2002 Z28. it was the 1/8th mile and Ive run the car maybe 25-30 passes over the last couple months. at the end of the 1/8th, my tranny shifts into 3rd. 2 times when it hit redline, it didnt shift but rather just bounced off the rev limiter. does this mean my tranny is about to go out?

Could point to excessive 3-4 clutch clearance. So it is possible particulary if the miles are getting up there and the cars been raced alot.

well I just turned over 100,000 miles last week and I have done ALOT of racing with it.

also, I dont know if this is connected to it but recently when I am racing it, when it shifts it makes this sound that sounds like a blowoff of some sort. I thought it might be the exhaust.

3-4 clutch pack going out. Pull dip stick, smell and look at fluid.

My car has made that noise since it was new. I have no idea what that noise is and I'm still running strong at 61000 miles.
