Default Which Shift Kit

Just got my ss4000 in and I was advised to put a 15% shift kit in. What is the difference between a 15% shift kit and a normal shift kit and which kind should I go with?

I dont think I have ever heard those terms used,
However if you dont mind tearing the trans down a bit or optionally somepeople only to the valve body/servo mods the Transgo Hd2 would be a good choice.

http://www.transgoperformance.com/gm4L60e.htm

Or also some people like the superior kit as it does not require trans removal to install the complete kit I dont have a link for it, I have used and installed both. The transgo is a bit more involved. Both seem to get the job done.
With a stock trans I dont suggest exceeding the middle settinsg with holes sizes etc.

So nothing simple like a b&m shift kit will do the trick?

I'd stay away from B&M. They make OK shifters, and put their name on some good coolers. But their shift kits are lacking.

The Transgo HD2 shift kit made a night and day difference in my stock 4L60E. With my turbocharger, it was slipping and not very happy. With the shift kit, it no longer slipped and was still very smooth under partial throttle. An involved install, not what I would suggest for a novice, but very good performance.

The Transgo kit is more involved because it addresses the valving, spring pressures, and fluid circulation issues that are critical to good performance with an aftermarket hi-stall converter. I wouldn't run a converter without it. Some tuning is also necessary to satisfying shifts and good all-around performance.

I'm getting my WOT shift points adjusted. My tuner says I wont need anything else about it tuned. How much is this trans go shift kit? I would look now but I need to hurry off to class.

I didn't use one because Yank didn't recommend it....my car is running great times....

Is a shift kit required or recommended?

10. Yank Performance Converters can achieve maximum performance and efficiency without the use of shift kits. Shift kits dramatically raise transmission line pressure to increase shift firmness. Increased shift firmness will not increase performance, but create unnecessary stress on the transmission and other drive-line components.

A few very reliable sources told me a shift kit would improve how the car drives with the bigger stalls.

Yank's information, although accurate, is incomplete. My Transgo shift kit decreased the time it took to make the shift (they had a diagram, but I can't find it) and stopped the slipping I had encountered. Increasing the line pressure is not what the Transgo is known for, and is one of the reasons it is the preferred kit.

Well, my shift time has been decreased in HPTuners, so I guess another reason I don't need a shift kit? hah

I have a TCI kit in my 700R4 and it was super easy. I plan on using the Transgo in my 4L60E. If you decide to go that rout, summit is the cheapest I've found so far at $77.

That statement on Yank's website is an oversimplification - at least when it comes to what a Transgo kit will do. True, you don't want to add a shift kit AND raise line pressure electronically. That being said, if your running an aftermarket converter and want nice, crisp, shifts and positive lock-up that won't chew up your clutch, get the Transgo installed.
