Sonnax?

Sonnax? Anyone used the Sonnax stator shaft? They claim it cures the 1870. Am I better off just putting new bushings in or getting this stator shaft?

The sonnax part is a good part , but the stator shaft isn't what causes the 1870 code . The most common cause other than a bad or slipping converter clutch is the TCC/PWM valve bore in the valve body . The bore wears out from the PWM valve cycling continually . The stator bushings wear and can cause a leak , but new bushings can be installed . The splines wear on the end of the stator shaft and that would be the only reason to change it . It can be a bitch to press it out and press the new one in and often will crack the aluminum casting .
The valve body bore can be serviced with a sleeve that sonnax also makes . The Transgo-2 shift kit eliminates the PWM function by replacing the valve and spring . This can be less expensive to do because the sonnax part requires a reemer that is over a hundred $$$ . Unless you know someone at a transmission shop that has the tool , that wouldn't be the best option .
Some rebuild kits now come with a spring that works like the Trango set up .
The other option is to go to GM and buy a new valve body $$$$$$$$

The stator bushings can cause premature clutch failure resulting in an 1870 code.

I to have seen where worn bushings can be an issue especially the front one in the stator shaft. The bushing is basically the seal for the lube oil circuit and with it dumping fluid it will effect lockup. Vince
