Default how do you determine optimal shift points

Do you go off your dyno graph ? Peak HP and TQ ?
What about your mods how much do they factor in ?
Lets say I have a 3000-3400stall and peak HP is at 6200 and TQ at 5000

Log your runs at the track, and adjust from there. Just because you set your shift point at say 6200 rpm, doesn't mean that's exactly where it shifts. It may be shifting at 6350 where you may be making less power. My car picked up a couple of tenths playing with the shift points.
