Lock-up converter question
Lock-up converter question Having trouble keeping my car idling in gear. After doing some reading I was thinking that it could be the converter locking up. I called my trans builder and talked to him about it. He says that when the trans was built that the o-ring on the input shaft was left off and that it wouldn't allow the trans to lock the converter without it. Is that the case?
That is correct not sure why anyone would leave it off but without that oring the converter will not lockup.
Now if you have a small diameter converter sometimes it is nesesary to do some tuning corrections due to its lower mass and the lower drag it places on the engine when turning to correct idle issues.

We left it off because I didn't want the converter to lock-up. My trans has a MVB and is vacuum modulated. Is there any other reason that the converter would lock? It's supposed to be a 4400 converter(Vig) and it turns the tires over at around 1500 rpms.
