Default tranny died what happened?

it's a stock 4l60e in a 98 z28, is there anything electronic that would make the pump in the trans stop pumping or did the pump just go out all at once? none of the gears work and i pulled the trans lines off the radiator and neither has any pressure. anything else i should check?

Sorry to say that nothing electrical caused the pump to break. I have seen converters with weak hubs cause this issue. Also if an after market converter was installed and the converter spacing was not checked this can happen as well. Feel free to give us a call to discuss your options. Vince

i was changing converters with one that came with the car when i bought it, but best i can tell it is for an lt1 style 4l60e. we put it on the trans and saw that it was almost flush with the bellhousing and that it wasn't going to fit. then reinstalled the stock converter. so the car has the same setup as when i took it apart. did the pump jam or something?

My trans did the same thing on Friday. It was running great and then all of a sudden the car would not move. No pressure out of the trans lines. Last year I had my car tuned and when I picked it up it was shifting harder. Is there anyway someone can increase line presure through a computer?

Yes you can but that would not break the pump. The tuner didnt do it lol.
Sometimes one can just break but in most cases its from one of the things listed above.
When you take the pump apart if you know what your looking for you can ussually tell what the culprit was.

What happens after the pump breaks? Don't the parts from the pump go through the rest of the trans and converter? You guys make it sound like buy a new pump and install it and away you go. Don't you have to rebuild the trans and maybe get a new converter. I'm taking my trans out this weekend and I'm going to pull the pump out. I wish I could just put in a new pump but I know my luck.

Thats A GOOD QUESTION and actually depends on the type of break. There is of course the types where something happens to the veins amd grinds aluminum up into the fluid and sends it all over the trans. Then theres a clean break rotor splits ir tangs break fluid stops flowing instantly in which case its possible to simply replace the pump. Wether anything needs to be done the the converter depends again of what happened and the type of break and any damage done to the converter hub.
