Just looking for some opinions about changing the fluid in my 2000 Z28 A4. I bought the car last year with 85000 miles. It has aprox 86000 now, I'm not sure when or if ever the tranny fluid and filter have been changed. My car runs great and shifts great. the fluid has a dark red/brown look to it. should I leave it alone? do a filter and fluid change or a fluid flush and filter change. Thank you in advance.
P.S any recomondations on specific tranny fluid to use...?

 

i do believe that its Dextron III ATF - get a filter and maybe a deep pan - cheap insurance.

 

Just change the fluid and filter using regular dexron III. If you dont already have an auxillary cooler then i would say that should be your next investment.

 

get a big tranny cooler

get synthetic tranny fluid

new filter

never flush your tranny

 

It should look like red kool-aid. I would say change it. Get a cooler too.

I have flushed the tranny in my camaro once or twice and it's been fine (I bracket race it)

I have also flushed my dad's yukon XL, and my mom's buick regal, no problems.

 

Ive seen alot of guys including myself with built autos behind high horsepower engines run just regular dexron III. Flushing the tranny may not be a bad idea although ive never done it any vehicle. Your filter and the magnet in your pan should catch the metal debris from normal wear and tear.

 

why even question it-change it-of course a shop will tell you the trans needs rebuilt, lol-when the trans acts up, then its time to rebuild

 

I used Castrol ATF domestic multi vehicle, dont waste ur money on synthetic.
