Default Converter slips when cold???

Yesterday I got the car out and the neighbor wanted to see a burnout. I let the car warm up and when I pulled out I hopped on it and it felt like I was in nuetral. I drove it a few miles and got on it and everything was great. The tranny is a TH400 with yank PT4000. The temp was in the 30's and I know the tranny was cold. Is this normal at all? The whole setup has less then 1000 miles on it.
