Default Is my tranny giving up??

Ok, this is my first ever stalled vehicle so I don't know what to look out for but, heres the deal. The car has 3k on it since mods in sig were done. Never been to the track and its not been beaten on much at all. When I first got the car, the converter would lock in D at around 30 mph and for the most part would stay locked on the small roads I live on. I would try and keep it locked so the tranny wouldn't get hot. After a couple months, whenever I would get slow or RPM's would drop, the car would try and unlock itself but would make like a grinding sound, I'm assuming it was doing this because it was trying to stay locked. But here is what got me worried. Yesterday, I got it out to take around the block and the converter locked at around 23-24 mph and was just about solid. I used to could roll on the gas pedal and make it come unlocked, not yesterday. I about had to mat it before it unlocked. Is this early signs of a tranny going sour or just nature of having a stall??

Check the fluid first of all.

Sounds like my transmission when it went on me.

I don't really know man. My tuner set it up that way. I kinda like it though because I live pretty deep in the country on some small roads and if I keep the car in D, I can lock it pretty easy and keep the tranny from ever getting really hot. I do run a trans cooler though..
