Default What gears for 9" with a TH400?

Okay, I think that I've decided to go with Rossler for the tranny. I'm having a local guy build the 9" rear but I haven't decided on what gear to use. If I remember correctly, my options are 3.70, 3.89, and 4.11. My mods are in my sig. I plan on adding a TNT wet kit as well. Thanks for any help.

Jeff

It all depends, do you plan on driving the car on the street?

If you do, I would get the 3.89 and use like a Mickey Thompson Sportman 29x12.5x15 for ur street tire, and the car will cruise between 70 - 75 mph @ around 3300 - 3500 rpm, and then depending on if you could hook on a 26" slick, I would use that, cuz it'll make u go through the traps @ a higher rpm and it would perform better, but if you can't get it to hook up, try a 27" or 28" tire till you hook it!

If you don't, and the car is trailered to the track and track only, get 4.30's and a 28" or 29" slick, depending on what ur trapping. But you should be able to get away with the 4.30's and a 28, cuz it should wind you through the traps @ around 130 give or take a few mph @ around 6800 - 7000 rpm! Depending on how it runs and what size shot, a h/c + spray (150 and lower) combo should put you through the traps anywhere from the 120's to low 130's (that's what i've personally seen most h/c/150 shot cars pulling in my area, but it could be more elsewhere in better weather conditions and probably is, but i'm just goin from what i've seen here). But you might want a 29" slick just in case, cuz that'll run ya up close to 140, and it just all depends on how ur car runs.

Thanks for the help Loudmouth. I do drive it on the street, but it's not my daily driver. I just get it out of the garage on the weekends, if the weather is nice, and I take it to the track a few times a year. I want whatever gears I pick to be able to get me into the high 9s. That's my goal, and I don't want to have to change out the gears in a year. As far as the nitrous goes...I plan on going with a 125 shot for now. I'll use that until I get together enough cash together to build another motor, and then I'll go with a bit more juice than that. Thanks again.

I'm running 4.11's with a TH400 and they're a little much on the highway. I'm definately going to change and I'm thinking that 3.42's would be the best of everything for my setup and stock height tires. The nice thing about a 9" is that you can quickly change whole centers for street and strip......that has crossed my mind also.
