Default A4 flexplate gone bad

Some of you know that I had some issues at the track the last time, this resulted in some noise. Well the noise has been found, unfortunately too late for my starter. The flexplate decided to crack near one of the converter bolts and then proceeded to crack thru the other two converter bolts. So that explains the into the rev limiter at both 2nd and 3rd gear at high rpm's at the track. Here is the pics of the carnage.

Looks way TOO familar!

You got off a little better than I did.

I say again. If you have a 2001 & up A4... watch that POS flexplate!

I replaced mine with a 98 flexplate and haven't had anymore issues.

Yeah I was reviewing some old posts, saw that it took out your transmission. I am just glad it didn't get anymore of the block, it got one bolt out of the back cover which you can see lodged between the flywheel and the crevise on top of the oil pan.

Yep, the new style flexplates are junk when the stress levels get high. The '00s and older are much better.

I am getting ready to replace my stock TC with a "Yank 3000" (2001 Z28), and it is because of posts like this, that I purchased the TCI SF29 flexplate. I figure as long as they are in there, and have to remove the TC, remove the other 3 bolts and replace the flexplate.

I'm in the process of getting a TCI SFI approved flexplate for my T400 setup.

That looks bad. Sorry that had to happen to you.

Can someone tell me what is the difference between the two flexplates?

I couldn't locate one locally so I called up SDPC. I asked for a 98-99 style flexplate, he told me there was only one part number in the system. So apparently you can no longer get the 98-99 flexplate. the one I recieved was the same style that came on the car.
The 98-99 style has a 6 bolt mounting provision for the converter and is slightly thicker. I am not dissapointed at all with what happened. I think for having 52,000 miles on the car and this being the only thing that has happened with me beating on it, and spraying N2O on top of it, I find it impressive so far.

I love my 99 flexplate...it's held up to A LOT of abuse...even a couple of LOOSE converter bolts...damn things backed out....I thank Madman for finding those for me.....I was changing out converters anyway..but heck...that coulda been disasterous
