Stalls are the best mod for autos. If it ends up taking out your trans, o well. Its worth it. Buy a good built one and keep kicking ***

In the 4 years I had it in there probably 65k miles with no problems. My best advice is to put a trans cooler, shift kit (as those allow more fluid to flow and help cool the trans down), and Amsoil trans fluid. Amsoil will drop the temp down quite a bit as well.

I also think running a 160* t-stat helps keep tranny temps down in the summer and will help longevity.....

Have ran a SS3600 b efore the heads/cam/rockers/intake etc. Frankly, I think it's a waste to go below 3600. No problems here so far. Cooler and a deep trans pan are a must in my opinion. If/when I break the trans I will install a fully built one...Good luck

You are right I am lucky. I have seen stock motored a4 trannys crap before mine. Maintenance, driving style and a little luck all play a part IMO.

And the 160* t-stat is often overlooked as a tranny mod IMO

Now watch mine grenade after the next WOT shift after this post

Adding a stall will put more power through the trans quicker and multiply the torque a bit more. But the biggest killer is heat. Adding a big cooler is the best thing you can do for an auto. Upgrading to a good fluid is also good. If the trans is about to go and you add a stall, it will definitely push it along faster. RPM is another killer, which is why a lot of autos fail after a cam swap, the shift points are raised to take advantage of the new cam. So while it is alway a gamble when adding a performance part to your car, adding the right ones can put the odds in your favor, like a billet converter and a big cooler.

BTW - we offer a great billet converter that will make you very happy - , be glad to answer any questions you have. I also agree, a 3600 is a very nice street/strip converter for most cars.

I agree with Chris, The heat and the way you drive is the #1 killers. If you beat the snot out of it every time you take off then longevity will suffer. As far as a 3600 ,that would be my choice as well.
