Default Ratchet shifter?????

ok guys in my 96 formula i have been throwing this idea around. i would like to put some type of ratchet shifter in, but i want it in the stock center console. so you cant see the base of it, just the acctual handle and all. can this be done fairly easy and i also need the brand and all that of a good ratchet shifter. any help would be greatly appreciated... thanks

Z28/2002:
That set up looks pretty slick. Was it fairly easy to do?

Anyone else with any more pics of their set ups?

I have the B&M ripper shifter in mine. I will try to get some pics for you. It wasn't hard at all and I think it still retains the factory look.

The only PITA was making the hole for the cable to go through. It was a 6 spd car and I had to make a cover for the tunnel and just bolted the shifter to it. Didn't use any spacers or anything but had to trim a little on the console by the cig lighter but you don't see it with the shifter boot on it.

yes if you could get a few pics... i would like to tackle this somewhat soon. the main reason is cause i want something different and i would like it to still look stock with the center console kinda. lol thanks for all the help guys.

Z28/2002 i was going to say with your shift boot on it still looks like a 6-speed car lol. but looks good. hope when i figure everything out it turns out like that.

Mine's a 93 Camaro, automatic, B&M Hammer. Here's how it turned out with the stock center console before I put the boot on it:

Hope that helps.

demonpixel...that looks nice. I like your set up, looks like a stock install but with a performance part. Just what I want to do.

But does anyone have a pic of their set up in an LS1 car? A 2001 vert to be specific.

did you omit the lever for reverse, or is it hidden under the boot?

Once you drive it a couple times, you get used to where it's at
