Default Transmission interchange question

Some retard decided to smash into my 97 TA, and it's a total loss. It has a tranny (A4) that was rebuilt a couple years ago in it. I am considering buying a 2000 TA, and wondered if I should take the tranny out of the old car as a spare for the 2000.

Did the 97 and 2000 cars use the same automatic transmissions?

Thanks,
-Rich

Im sure some of the "guts" would work. The trans itself wont just bolt up to the LS1. different bellhousing. If the 97 trans still works i would remove it and just sell it as is. save the money you get from it and then upgrade the ls1 4L60E.
