Default Th400 yoke question

How much of the yoke is supposed to be in contact with the transmission shaft? I bought a driveshaft from a member that was supposed to be for a th400 to 9" combo for a f body and I'm thinking its too short. There is about 2" of the yoke out of the trans once installed and the yoke length is about 3 1/4".

Another question I have if it's too short, can I buy another yoke and have it cut down to fit?

Make sure the car is sitting at normal ride height and then the snout should have roughly 1" showing. This is not an exact calculation, just what all my stuff has always been. You might contact a trans place and ask them the exact measurement.

My experience goes like this-push the yoke and driveshaft all the way forward and you should have about an inch of clearance between the rear ujoint and rearend yoke.
