Chuck

I'm not an expert, but from all the reading I've done, the only difference I've seen mentioned is the length of the output shaft between those used by 2-wheel-drive and 4-wheel-drive trucks. I think if you're looking at a tranny from a 2-wheel-drive pickup, it will be the same.

Basically all 4L60s are the same internally, but there are a few differences in bell bolt pattern, output shaft, wiring connections, ect. The only direct bolt in for an LS1 f-body is out of a 98-02 f-body. LS1s have a different bolt pattern, and 4L60s out of anything but a f-body won't have the torque arm mount, but the tailshaft can be swapped. I fairly certain you could use a 4L60 out of a 99-04 truck, but you'd have to change the tailshaft. The spacer people refer to shouldn't apply to swapping a truck trany into an f-body.

edit: I miss typed.

lt1s did not have a different bolt pattern. the belhousing bolt patterns on all chevy and gmc v-8s hasnt changed since 1955.

The bolt pattern changed slightly when LS1s were introduced in 1997, LT1s were the same as older Chevys. I corrected my first post.

then why does a th-350, or th-400 bolt directly to a ls1. because they are the same. 700r4 (which came on gen1 and 2 sbc) is internally/externally almost identical to a 4l60e most of the difference is in the valve body one electronic and the other vacuum assisted.

Small block chevy V-8's, and big-block chevy V-8's, have always had the same bellhousing bolt pattern. There is only one different bolt hole, at the top right side of the LSX bolt pattern, that is not a concern to even use and often isn't. It is, for lack of a better description, an "extra" mounting hole on the tranny bellhousing. In other words, all GM automatic trannys, will "bolt-up" to any Chevy V-8 manufactured since the mid-50's. Hope this helps.

the top passenger side doesnt use a bolt because it would hit the water jacket. the trannys still have the hole, the block doesnt.
