4l80 or th400.?

Default 4l80 or th400.?

So ive been thinking of doin a m6 swap to a 4l80 or a th400 and i want to hear your guys opinion. Im currently building a 408 which is gonna be a streetable race car. Ive been thinking of goin with the th400 but ive read that its not a good idea to drive it on the streets so thats where the idea of a build 4l80 comes in play. The questions are

Is the 4l80 worth it cause of the OD.?
Is it as strong as a th400.?
Would i be able to down shift while driving.?
People with 4l80 whats your opinion and thoughts of it.?
Ive also read that i would have to change the pcm since
my car is a 98.

the 4L80 is basically a th400 with o/d. GM put them behind diesel truck engines, so the should be tough enough.

did you mean downshift, or leave it in drive and let it shift?
400's have been around for over 40 years, dont understand about not driving them on the street, wether man shift or full auto-it comes down to wether you want o/d or not, and lockup converter-i now have a 4l80e, love it, and i have used 400's for over 40 years-they are more expensive, i use a compushift controller, but you could go full man to save money
if your not gonna drive that far on the street, then a 400 would be the way to go, but on a long trip, hi stall and low gears, flowmasters, well, you get the idea, lol (headphones)

I can get a 98 computer to run a 4L80E electronically.
