Default What's this little part in the pan

Opened up a 2000 4l80e.
The pan actually had very little on the magnet compared to other trannies I pulled the pan on.
Did find these two pieces in the pan. They fit together perfectly and the end of the one is smooth so whatever kind of ring it was off of it broke off right at the end.
In the top pic I flipped the one piece over because it has a little wear mark on it that might mean something to someone.
Any ideas what broke off and how important it is lol.
In the pic I'm holding those pieces in my hand so they are pretty small.

Looks like part of a snap ring to me. However in a 4l60e if this is the trans it came out of, it is not very common.

no came out of a 4l80e.
Is it common on them?
On a scale of 1-10 how much should I care it's in there if the tranny worked otherwise?

On a 4l80E I would guess that it is an intermediate or the overdrive snap ring. I have seen it quite often. On the intermediate we use a wide snap ring that takes care of that problem. Personally to me it is a big deal. I would get it looked at asap. Vince

Hey look I found the rest

intermediate snap ring.
Also should I turn all the snap rings all the way back so the opening is in the 3 o'clock position or just some.
Example this was how one of the unbroke further back rings was in and just looks like an accident waiting to snap off.
(pic is upside down to 3 o'clock would be the left position in this pic, or almost 180 from where it's at now.)

I always install the snap ring in the 3 oclock position for the intermediate clutch. Make sure that the case lugs for the snapring are all still there. I guess I was spot on with this one. Good luck getting up and running again. Vince
