Default 6l80vs4l65

Hi

what better the 6l80 or the 4l65 ?

I am asking because last night I was driving my g8 gt (it has a 6l80) and my friend with his g8 gt came he said he did a swap in his tranny from 6l80 to 4l65 I dont know why but when I raced him starting from 25mph to 800m he beat me about 3 cars (all cars are 100% stock ) in first gear we was together till I shifted to 2nd he started to open and beat the hell out of me till he reached 3 cars ahead why the hell is that I think the 6l80 is crap

thanks

I believe you'll get an answer if you post this on the grrrr8 board. All I know
is that the stock tune isn't that good on the A6.

Lots of factors to look at here. What had been done to his 4l65e? Torque management removed, higher stall converter, shifts timing tightened up and you would have had a hard time with a staying up with a stock 6l80. I don't think the 6l80 is junk but it is kinda fighting with one hand behind its back in stock tune.

it must be the difference in gearing, plus if he did do a conversion something was done. You can't just swap something over and it be perfectly fine with no work needed to be done. I don't know about the converter but I would imagine that would have to change also seeing as though the input shaft maybe different, I could be wrong but there is mostlikely something not said or missed in a conversion did take place. Google the gearing of both trans and from there you should be able to make a guess on how you should have ran. Plus you can factor in that some cars are just monsters from the factory.
