Whats the largest stall for street
noob question: I read that when you drive around with the RPMs under what the stall is that the converter will never lock, thus causing excessive heat and ultimately more wear on the transmission. True or not? Thanks.
The converter needs to be built for your combination and driving style. Each of our converters are custom designed. The quest for more.....more fun, more speed, more ET. Like Greg said, most people get their first converter and discover how streetable and fun they really are. Then they wish they'd gone bigger, and most end up doing just that. I'm a perfect example.
IMO the 3500 was no comparison to the 4000. Likewise, the 4000 didn't even come close to the 4400. My current 5000 is very similar to the 4400; each has their perks. Just remember that the rated stall speed is only a fraction of the equation. Physical size, STR, internal quality, etc are every bit as important. That's why it's best to call the sponsor of your choice and discuss your plans with them.
