The girlfriend and i were heading home on the highway in her 94 Chevy 1500(w. 38in superswampers) and we gave it a little gas to pull around someone and all of a sudden the truck went BOOM! we pulled off to the side of the highway and we could not get the truck to move in any gear...fun day

I started to tear into it and this is what i found...

(input clutch drum) overrun clutch piston cracked






This common on lifted trucks with large tires on stock trans?

 

my buddy went through 3 turbo 350's in his 85 w/ 36.5 tires he ended up going to a th400 to stop that problem

 

That is a big problem with this trans.Sonnax makes a sleeve & piston to reinforce that area of the drum.

 

I'll have to look into that... you have a link, or know where i can search for that?
