Default 4L60 vs 4L65E

I have a 99 Pontiac Trans Am, my tranny is about to go out since my overdrive doesnt kick in anymore. I found a killer deal on a Perfomabuilt level 2 4L65E and wanted to know if it is a direct swap or if I need to mod anything up. What are the advantages or disadvantages of the 4L65E vs the 4L60E? Also do I need to tune it or will it work fine without a tune?

well to know if its a direct swap would need to know what year and car it was bullt for. As for the 60e vs 65e the primary difference is the 4 pinion vs 5 pinion planets there was however only a very minor increase on power handling between these two unit stock and a built 60e easily exceeds a stock 65e.
You should not need a tune for a built trans now if you change the converter or if previous tuning has been done to increase shift firmness then you would need to make changes as most companies including ourselves perfer the units line presure settings be set at stock.
