Default Not sure I like this 3200 stall

This is my first LS car. I started out with a LS1, TR224, and the Vigilante 3200. Broke 3 rods before I ever put the tranny in drive. The damaged rods cracked one of the lobes on the new cam so I installed a stock 5.3L for now but with the 3200 stall.

I drove it for the first time yesterday, just around the block and not hard at all but it is loose! Takes quite a bit of ooomph just to get over the step on the garage floor. Makes more noise than acceleration around the street.

It hasn't been tuned yet. Will the tune and an eventual cam help things out? Also only has a 3.08 in the rear? Otherwise, starts and runs great.

Too much stall for this set-up? Advice?

Jeff

I think the tune may help it a bit, The tq management has to be adjusted.

Vigs are known to be a little on the loose side. However, all 3k+ stalls are gonna need extra rpm to get moving or get up hills. How much rpm are you seeing during a light takeoff?? Your rear gear is hurting you with this as well. Move to a 3.42 or 3.73 and rpm needed to reach speed during cruise will dramatically reduce. IMO, a tune will not tighten the feel of a stall.

ok, not really what I expected. So much praise about the stall converters on the forum and how it wouldn't be very noticeable. Everything is fixable.

Yeah, I'm not sure how many rpms because I don't have a tach. My driveway is slightly inclined and I'm parking in a one-car garage so it's pretty narrow. I like to approach it slowly but the step into the garage floor doesn't allow you to roll on in or approach very slow with this stall.

Thanks.

I had the same deal getting into my garage last night. Drove my car for the first time with an SS4000 after we finished up the install. Have a step lip to get into the garage so about 1:00 AM when I was trying to slowly get in the garage I had to really give it some gas to get in slowly. As far as the rest of driving I drove it this morning and seemed like I needed about 2k RPM to get the car moving and a few times it was closer to 3k RPM, but the car is untuned for the tranny at the moment. I also have 3.73 gears so I'm sure that helps. I'm sure once I get it tuned and it's broke in I'll get used to the new stall.

My vig 2800 was loose! The yank ss3600 is very tight for a high stall convertor! After its tuned and some drive time you will get use to it!
