Default 4l60e ?

Many people continue to tell me to get the 4l80 instead of the 4l60 for my conversion in my 86 Monte Carlo SS which is being built for 500hp to the flywheel. Is this tranny really that weak? What mods can be made to accommodate for the power? What converter should I use?

I personally think that you could get a well built 60 to work in you combo. Not that an 80 would not be better but I guess the real question is how much more do you plan on doing? If your going to call it a day at 500fwhp then a 60 would be fine. Take a look at one of our level 4 or higher built 60's for your vehicle. www.finishlinetrans.com . If you have any questions feel free to give us a call next week. Vince

I plan on having it tuned for about 500 for this summer and next yr investing in a BDS MFI. Guess I need an 80.
