Is there a specific operating temp for a 4l60?

I'm just curious how critical it is to keep the transmission at a certain temp?

 

cool as possible, I personally dont wanna see anything over 200....ever.

 

185 is pretty good. 200 is roughly about where you start scorching fluid and burning up parts.

 

175 180 beating on it 190 200

 

In a trans cooler is better. Run a nice cooler and try and keep it around 180. Mine runs 174 under normal conditions with the converter locked, and 190's beating on it with the converter unlocked. I filled it with Mobil 1 synthetic to help out with the temp issues.
