How do you replace the auto shifter handle?

How do you replace the auto shifter handle? The auto shifter in my 2000 ws6 looks terrible. The stitching in the leather is completely out, and it's seperating. How do I take the stock handle off to put a new one on? Also, anybody know of any stockish looking replacements? All of the aftermarket looking one's I've seen look terrible... I really prefer the t-style ones like stock.
Don't know where it is on the t/a **** but on my camaro it was a small U clip that kind of blended in with the stitching. I replaced it with a mba ss **** which I think is cool.
