4L60e issues
Hello, First timer on this site, hope you folks can shed some of the who-ha off of the situation, I'm running a 2000 GMC ext cab,5.3 4x2 my tranny was run for a 40 or so mile run low on t fliud, now tranny will only shift to 1st & 2nd only, fluid is tired, Light brown, was told by dealership that it is junk, although they were more than willing to install a new one for $2800-2900 nice I located one for $700,the truck has 191000 on it and can't do a new one at this time, Do you think I could get away with a flush and new filter,or just hit the $700 tranny and start from there Thanks for the advice, Happy motoring
It sounds like your 3-4s are wiped out you are wasting your money if you want to flush it out.Is the 700.00 trans used or rebuilt? You cant rebuild one properly for 700.00.You also need to get the converter rebuilt also.

I'm assuming that $700 trans is used but I wouldn't put a used trans in unless it had really low miles, especially when you are talking about the 4l60e trans. At the same time, I don't think I would spend $2900 for a new one from the dealer either. I guess your best bet is to go used but I would try to find a nice low mile trans if you go that route.
Hey Jon, thanks for the response, used it is, the doner left this earth with 112k on it, the others were cash for clunkers, with higher mileage, unknown if a rebuild was in their past, this one would be a three hr. trip to Maine. I removed the old pan to find only how clean it was, no metal,at all, still not worth rebuilding??, I've replaced a few in my day never rebuilt one though. From what I've read here, it sounds like it could be tougher than the 60s or 70 vintage.. been a while for me. Thank you for the advise, much appreciated
No he is saying you could rebuild it for the same price as the used one. I would have it rebuilt. I have had mine rebuilt 2 times now and the second time it got much better parts put in it. That is what I would do. I would find a good shop
to do the work, if you are not able to.

Hey Skat, it looks that Jon was saying to have both done, tranny and converter. Quality job on tranny alone is more than $700. Used is always a toss of the dice, unfortunately I'm going to try my luck at the dice, Funds and employment are tight. Thank you for your help Much appreciated!
