Default th400 help

hey guys, what year of the th400 trans are you using. i found a good deal on a 70s th400 but i dont know if this is the right one that will work with our cars. by the way i have a 99 ta. thanks for any help

It really does not make much difference. If your building the unit for performance/drag racing, a combination of late & early parts are best. Early planets, late center support, late pump and so on.
Hope that helps. (early units may still have a early high drum, which you will need for the stronger int. sprag.)

they went to a 5 bolt pump in the mid 80's (?), all the rest have 7 bolt pumps. somebody correct if I'm wrong, but I think that they all use the same amount of clutches.

The later units seem to have less clutches in foward & direct also they have stamped pistons instead of aluminum pistons.

look at FTI and ROSSLER for a th400 i flipped a coin between them

you mean 6 & 8 bolt pumps.
You will want to run alum pistons. Forward can be cut to accommodate 6, simple pressure plate/clutch/steels convert intermediate from 3-4.
Thats why I said your builder will use a combination of late and early parts.
