As cars go faster, the general rule is you need less gears. No clue why some people are stuck on the more gears is better idea. They do that **** for emissions and gas mpg requirements on lower hp stock engines, NOT for performance.

However the joint Gm/Ford developed 10-speed auto seems to get good reviews, especially in e.g. the 2017 Camaro.

I actually like the 6l80e, and I liked Ford's version in an ecoboost f150. They are nice for putting you in a powerband and low rpm cruising on the hwy. They arent racing friendly due to complexity (tuning and building) and the added costs assiciated. They dont make sense when there are better options out there that will perform better for less.
