Default Transmission application question.....

I'm trying to decide on what transmisson I will run in my project. The car is a backhalfed Mazda rx7 that will weigh around 2200-2300 lbs. minus driver. Power will come from a stock 5.3 with z06 cam plus a T76. The car has a 9" With 4.56 gears and will run 295 DRs. I plan to drive the car regularly.

1. I currently own a factory case powerglide with a sportsman transbrake manual valvebody. Greg slack converter (notexactly sure how it will act behind an ls1 and I would likely have to send it back to him to replace the flywheel mounting flange) Also has deep pan.

2. 4l60e with 3800 yank converter.

I'd go with the glide at that weight. No need to get the converter cover modified, get the 4l80e flexplate/spacer setup. I'd also drop the rear gears down a lot too. With the 295s, I'd probably go with a ~3.5 to ~3.73.

Thanks for the input. I was hoping for overdrive but I can't fork over a ton for a bunch of aftermarket parts to go in a 4l60e. The car has a spool in it now, I will do some math with tire size and gear and do the best I can for highway speeds with the glide.

Can someone give me more info on rhe flexplate/spacer setup he is referring to?
