I was wondering if any of you guys with trans experience could point me in the right direction. I have an LS2 backed with a 4L65E in my 67 Chevelle. The trans was fine before it was pulled from the car. I put a basic tune in the ECM in the car from a GTO which is what the motor and trans came out of. The trans controller was also programmed out of the car at the same time. The car seems to run fine but it has no ***** out of the hole and it starts out in 3rd gear. If I want to start out in 1st I have to manually shift it. Could it be in the program or should I look elsewhere.
If I had to guess your computer has put your transmission into a limp mode condition. This would be 3rd gear starts. Scan your computer to see what trans codes you have and go from there. It is possible that your trans does not have power this would cause it to have 3rd gear starts as well. Vince
Thanks Vince if I could pick your brain on this it would help me a great deal. Would a baseline stock tune cause that? I had the tune put in on a bench with the ecm and trans controller out of the car. Now I have the car up and running would you recommend taking it back to the place that put the tune in it? Also if it is in limp mode does it allow me to start out manually in 1st gear? And does your shop do that if I am unable to correct the problem. I live in Chicago and am not that far from your shop.

The baseline tune might be set really allow the vehicle to run. If you have a stall converter or other things added that were not tuned with the baseline tune then other issues with the tune might be at fault.
If the computer has put the trans in limp mode with a stock calibrated valve body, then yes it will move with the shifter in the manual low position. We do not do tuning here so I can't help you there. Speed inc in Schaumburg, Finish line Performance in Naperville, Straight line or a couple others in the area I'm sure could help you there or even the shop that did the actual tune for you.
I would verify with a scan tool if you are getting any codes first however. A transmission code depending on what you have can cause this condition. If no codes are present I would suspect that you do not have power at the trans.
Thanks Vince I appreciate your response. I will check it for codes and if none ar present I will take the car to Speed Inc. for the tune. By the way is it safe to drive like that or should I trailer it there, it is about 15 miles from me?
