4l80e question
I have a 01 and a 06 model transmission. I plan to use the 30k mile 06 and have the 01 built, assuming they are a direct swap? Am I thinking correctly on this, they do appear physically different?
The only thing I know of that will be different is the Neutral Safety Switch wiring. I think around 2003 they went to a newer single-plug. Your 2001 model will probably have two plugs on the NSS - one with 4 wires that goes to the PCM, and another with 5 or 6 wires that controls your backup lights, starter lockout, a ground, and maybe something else. On your 2006, all of this will be lumped into one big plug.
You can either splice on a new plug, swap the NSS from your other transmission, or look for someone who sells an adapter harness.
I have never installed a NSS assembly before... I decided to splice my wires. I think installing the NSS is somewhat involved... maybe you have to adjust it or something?
