Default question about my black trans

I recently bought a new t/a from a dealership in TX. I am doing some work on the car. Anyway I get the trans out and its black, doesnt look like an old paint job, and looks pretty good. I dont recall any black transmissions going in these cars from the factory. Anyway the trans is blown and I got a new built 60 going in. I was wondering if there was anyway to tell if this was a professionally built trans that may have come from a good co. like FLT or Circle D for instance. Like any kind of stamping or marking. It may just be junk someone had built at a local shop, idk. I was just a little curious. I've only really glanced over it and didnt see anything.

Should be stamped somewhere if it was built by a big name company. Being that it failed under stock power, I would assume it was a shitty local overpriced rebuild.

Nah no pics. It looks to be normal, just black. I am not gonna waste any time on it really. I am sure it was a shitty local rebuild. I dropped the k yesterday and upon inspection of the trans it had FOUR bolts missing from it, and 1 of the bolts started to turn just by me grabbing it.

Circle D Transmissions do not paint their transmissions and if it was theirs, the servo on the right side would have their logo machined into the outer surface of the servo.

Somebody likely threw that junkers trans in there just to get it running and trade it in. If they didn't have the pride to install all or at least most of the bolts holding it to the motor, it shows they truly didn't give a flying ****. *********.

TCI and Hughes are 2 of the companies that paint their transmissions black.

Common sense here gentlemen. Who would pay for a well built trans and leave bolts out? But, good info^^^ none the less.

GM srta units are painted black , so if it had a trans put in it under warranty that could be why . Just because a transmission wasn't built by a "sponsor" doesn't mean it was junk . The fact that bolts were left out could also mean thay it was run low of fluid and burnt up .

I'd say whoever traded it in or had it repo'd probably took the good trans out, painted a piece of crap and limped it to the dealer. I've done it once, I took a fresh 4L80E out of a one ton truck, put in a th350 and drove to the dealer and traded it in, they didn't even test drive it.

We have not painted our units in ruffly 4 years. However if it were a unit I built there would be a stamping identifying a FLT build on the rear/top portion of the main case. I know the color black is what a bunch of people use. I know RPM and Rossler use it as well. Here is a photo of my stamp. Vince
