Default 4l80 questions

have a blown 408 in my 01 camaro that seems to eat 4l60s...current 60 was from a reputable shop...ive been foot braking and manually shifting it...last pass when i went from 1-2 it was like hitting neutral.....it will go into second if you put it in drive but you cant manually shift it...when this happened it started leaking trans fluid like crazy.. at first thought it was from dip tube...not so sure its not a broken case.....any way the new idea is to put an 80 in it with good parts and a brake.......whos the best????like to do it once and be done.....last pass on an easy tunew 8 lbs, footbraking and shifting at 5500 was a 7.10 @ 92 mph in the eighth...looking to turn up the boost but need a trans to stay togethrt...everything else is ready....HELP!!!!!!!!!1

Are you sure that the servo did not blow out of the case. With a leak and an issue in second I suspect this might be your issue. Vince B

I like Jake's Performance (he has his own designed transbrakes as well for it).

Why are you manually shifting? Does it have a manual valve body on it?

Leave it in D if not.

servo on pass side of case seems to be fine... it looks like the dipstick tube has pushed up out of the case....happened right after the second gear problem....left the line no second gear..coasted the rest of the pass...didnt oil the track but when i shut it off in the pits had a big puddle....seems like a lot of internal pressure or something.....any ideas???

The tube or the stick pushed out? I some cases the installer will install the dipstick tube in the trans and use some sealer so it does not leak. The one thing here is if the tube is coming out of the case it might not be bolted to the cylinder head like it is supposed to be. This could definitely be an issue. With this happening in second gear if there is a huge leak in the trans it has to be either the 2nd gear servo or the 1-2 accumulator if I had to guess. Hope this helps you some. Vince

crazy thing....the tube is whats leaking.it is bolted to the head..looks like whatever broke just created enough pressure to blow past the o ring and the silicone...the case doesnt seem to be broken..must be something internal....everybody tells me not to put a brake in the 60..thats why im thinking of going to an 80 with a brake....sucks making no boost at launch
