Sorry mods if this is a no no (delete if you must) I have a '89 chevy celeberty with only 63,000mi on it (winter beater) and when I got it the trans fluid was pretty dark and had a slight burnt smell, so I changed it about 3000mi ago and that fixed the hanging up in gear in down shifts when I let off the gas (not WOT down shifts lol) But now it's seems to be coming back a little and I just recently noticed it's not allways shifting into 4th when it usually did at about 60mph, it will shift on it's own sometimes but other times I will have to go back to 50or55mph and bring it back up past 60mph and it will shift. Another thing is when I changed the fluid they asked if I had a 3speed or a 4 I told them I wasn't shure and they told me to count the bolts on the pan (I think it was 11) and they told me it was a 3spd, but now that the trans it acting up I started to pay attention to the shifts and it goes through 4 gears so maybe the were wrong or I heard them wrong (not shure)So what I am wondering is do I need a total rebuild or just a few minior things fixed? Any idea what this should cost?? I just hope it it's not too much I plan on buying a house this spring and don't really want to dip into my down payment money for my beater grrr hopefully it will last the rest of the winter.
