No, not mandatory. I read on some threads that the LS1 flex-plates were known to crack even under stock power. I'm sure the failure rate is really really low but i picked up the new CAT racing flex-plate on ebay for about $40 shipped so I figured I might as well.

This thread has been in the back of my mind for a couple weeks now. I recently bought and installed the 278 mm Circle D 3000-3200 stall and have been planning on getting a video. I will put one up (if I can figure out how to, I'm technologically challenged ) this coming week if I can. I will say for right now that it drives almost completely stock, except when you mash it. You can only tell it is stalled if you gas it hard and it revs up before it yanks the tires loose really quickly or if you are on a hill under taking off from a stop. If I had to do it over again, I probably would have gone bigger , but, on the other hand with gas prices climbing and the majority of my driving being around town here in the near future, maybe it's better that I didn't. I dunno It is definitely a great converter for the money, and Circle D's customer service is outstanding. I have called Chris a couple times since the install for random questions and he has always been helpful and willing to take the time.

I took some random vids, might try again after work tomorrow. Love this stall for daily use, it replaced a slipping tci 3500 that got destroyed at WOT lol.

^^Well there ya go! Thanks, LaBLK. If you can, could you post one where the pedal gets mashed from a stop? I figure that would give everyone a chance to see what it flashes to. If you don't, no worries, I will if it stops raining this week

By the way, do you daily drive your converter? And, what's it like compared to your old TCI? (before it started slipping )

Yeah I could do that, you can kind of see it flashing to about 2900 in my first vid but it happens real fast at speed. Yes its my daily driver, I put about 180 miles on it every week. I believe the TCI has always been slipping (was installed when I bought the car), but it is a night and day difference. With the old converter, my car would surge at around 43mph and at WOT the shifts didn't feel crisp like they do now. The Circle D really grabs. It doesn't surge at any speed after the new converter install.

Yeah, I was surprised with how tight my Circle D 3200 was. I was afraid of going too big, and I think I ultimately undershot it, but I DD mine as well so... oh well. But, LaBLK, you are cammed, right? And the car would surge with the old TCI 3500? That's interesting... I am planning a 224 cam in the future, so it's good to know the Circle D 278mm converter won't cause any problems with that size cam.

Yeah I knew that the Circle D 278mm was going to be tight because of its size, but I was surprised at how good it worked with my setup. My cam is a pretty good size and I was surprised that it didn't surge after the converter swap. I still haven't gotten it tuned yet either since the converter install (on a long waiting list at the local dyno shop).

Thanks a lot for the vids hopefully this will help a lot of people still on the fence about it. I have to say after seeing these idk that there's much of a difference between this and a 3600 lol. If you can get more vids in the daylight go ahead im sure they're much appreciated. Just one other thing I noticed why do you have a v6 cluster in ur car isnt the speedo off because of that, also what gears do you have out back

Good eye, its a v6 camaro lol. Had the computer tuned to run the v6 cluster when the LS1 swap was done but now have a v8 cluster to swap in when I get my dyno tune done. Running Richmond 4.10s.

Didn't realize this but I just installed a new set of wheels and tires yesterday, so my speedo is off a little (275/35/18 to 275/40/17). These runs are on brand new NT05's, didn't get to break them in yet.

Car is in need of a retune bad (was tuned for nitrous) so it isn't running 100%, you can see that I have some hesitation in my last vid.

This converter is super tight, can only footbrake it to 2100 rpms. I launch off idle at the track though.

Nice! Sounds like you have a healthy 1-2 chirp goin on. You running a shift kit or anything in the trans? With my 278mm, it'll bring up the rpm's enough mashing it from a dead stop for me to spin all the way through first and into second. I was a little surprised with that, but happy!

Yeah, these NT05's spin quiet until they start to grip. I'm actually spinning up until you hear the chirp lol. It has a B&M kit and trans tune.

wow great vids guys... hmm i thought this decision would be quite a bit easier. the 3200 seems like a great stall but the driveability doesnt look much different than a ss3600 so now im thinking and idk lol. maybe its just me but this doesnt look a whole lot less street friendlt? the only thing i dont like is that it comes out of lockup so easily when passing someone but i guess thats in the tune?
