Default 4L65E Bellhousing ?

What size is the Torx bit needed to remove the bolts that old the bellhousing on the main body of the trans? I tried my biggest today (T50), but it doesn't quite fit.

Thanks in advance....

It is a T50 plus. It is a little differnt in design over a normal T50. Hope this helps. Vince

Yep, I would buy a couple to make sure your always using a sharp bit, they're in there tight and it's easy to round off the bit.

I'm guessing I'm not lucky enough for that to be the same as a T55?

These things are damend hard to find so far. Even Grainger doesn't have them in stock...

You're probably not going to find it locally. You might find a shop to remove them for you, then reinstall them. I did that once and was charged $5 for removal and $5 to reinstall.

Then I bought the Sonnax bit, you don't need more than one because they don't strip easy. They're $10. http://www.transmissionpartsusa.com/...-077000hbk.htm

From Performabuilt below.. Apparantly you can make your own by grinding down a T50, proving once again desperation is the mother of invention...

The bit is called a T50 plus and is available from sonnax and snapon. However, you can use a modified T50. Purchase a quality T50 bit and grind about 1/32 inch off the end. Do not use the bits with a hole in the end. The grind amount is approx. as it varies from one brand to another, but the goal is to grind until the bit fits tight in the screw head. The bits get progressively larger as they get near the top, so grinding more off effectively makes the bit larger. Then bear in mind that the screws are held in with red loctite, so they are held in fairly tight. Use small propane torch (the ones that cost around 5 dollars at the hardware store) and heat the thread end (not the bolt head) to around 275 to 300 degrees. Then (generally) the screws will come right out. Make sure you have the bit lined up straight in the screw, and keep it that way. Do not use an impact wrench - if it jumps out it will strip the bolt. Then you would have a much larger problem....

Yeah, I'm not doing that either...

I'll probably order one and be done with it. For $10, its not that bad.

Whew! I ended up ordering it from the trans parts USA website. I called one Sonnax distributor in Ma for a price thinking it would be cheaper and they told me $44! I had her check twice as i didn't think that could be right. She said it was!

Thanks everyone.
